Windows 2008 R2 SP1 - Remote desktop services - Hangs at Welcome screen, unable to login through RDP or local console

Hello,

We have been experiencing this issue for awhile and its getting frustrating as there are no errors in the event viewer. Here is what happens:

At a random time, could be within a day, a few hours or a week. Users are unable to log into the remote desktop server either through RDP or on the console, they are able to put in their login name and password then it just sits at the welcome screen with the wheel spinning. Users that are currently logged into the server are able to use the mouse, run local programs, but software that requires a network connection will not work.

This server is running in a VM on a Hyper-v box running a failover cluster between 2 Dell R710's. Hyper-v is windows 2008 R2 SP1

In order to get the server working again we need to choose shutdown within the hyper-v console, there could be a 5-10 minute delay to shutdown the server. Once the server starts back up everything works fine, after reviewing the event viewer there are no errors at the time of the hang.

In all the research I've done so far it seems like SP1 was suposed to fix issues similar to this, this issue was happening before and after SP1 installation.

Thanks!

Dave
