After updaing machines with RDP 8, remote connections to the remote desktop gateway fail, the login screen appears, but the user cannot get past this, when running RDP 7.1 or below, there is no issue.
Remote Desktop Gateway server is Windows 2008R2 64bit SP1, latest updates. Clients are Windows 7 Pro SP1, latest updates.
Thanks

High contrast scheme is enabled by default at login screen
Hello,
There is a problem with terminal server running server2008R2,
when user connects to it using RDP client, the login screen is all
black, because the "high contrast scheme" is enabled. You can
disable it, clicking the icon (special possibilities) at the left bottom
part of the screen, but still for every new connection, high contrast
is enabled again. This problem is bound to login screen only, (where
user enters the name/password) after the profile is loaded, the color
scheme is ok again. I was googling for solution, there are some similar
questions, but its not about high contrast. I tried searching for
"high contrast" at registry, but have not found a way to disable it at
startup... Looking for a way to disable it.
I have received a recomendation to un-check the "Persistent Bitmap Cache"
But its not about bitmap caching, I have tried disabling this option at connection tab,
and I have also tried to connect from different systems (one could be cached, but not all of them) , its not
he reason of my problem, however, i have found the following issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906510
t seems to me, the key problem is here. Its not a color issue, i have imported a color scheme from a "healthy"
server, and nothing changes, but as I see, the login screen color setup is bound to "default" user and probably,
the high contrast scheme is turned on for "default" user, thats why I see it enabled at login screen, there is
a little workaround, I can change the "window" color code to 128 128 128 and the background will be gray, but
still it looks bad. Looking for help how to resolve this issue.
RDS 2012 Failover Delay
Hi I´ve built architecture below. Failover testing by shutting down one and pointing out directly to the other works fine, but it´s taking around 5 minutes the surviving node to realize it´s the only one. RD Broker is in high availalibity is configured as specified by RDS team blog to use a backend SQL database
Any ideas if this delay can be lowered ?
Standard deployment, two servers with following distribution
Server1: RD SH, RD WB, RD LS, RD BROKER
Server2: RD SH, RD WB, RD LS, RD BROKER
Thanks much all in advance !
RDS user profile disks - getting error temporary profile are being used as UPD are not accesible
Everything was working fine with UPD in a RD broker HA configuration, however all of a sudden I´m starting getting the typical error used has being logged on with temp profile by which I infer UPD are not accesible.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this as this is new architecture.
Thanks in advance !
System Properties Box Everytime i login

Open TIF files on Win2003 R2 64-bit Terminal Server
Hi there,
We have a Win2003 R2 64bit terminal server. I had configured to open TIF file with Microsoft Office Document Imaging from Control Panel -> Folder Options -> File Type. However, the configuration would be gone in 2-3 months. When this happens, our Remote Desktop Users cannot open TIF files (faxes) that are stored on our sharepoint web server. Therefore, I have to re-do the configuration again.
Is there any way to make the configuration permanent?
Thanks.

500 Internal server error on RPC over HTTP using TS Gateway
I've been happily using TS Gateway on Windows Server 2008 x64 for 18 months and everything was working perfectly. Suddenly this week it started giving "access denied" errors to any user who tried to connect, evidenced in event viewer as a failed login attempt. After restarting the server, it got worse in that if I browse to the /rpc folder it gives me 500 Internal server error and I don't even get as far as authenticating credentials. I've tried removing IIS, RPC over HTTP and TS Gateway, and re-adding all of them, but I still get the same error 500. The RPC and TS Gateway services are both running. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?
How can I check IF I'm using Remote FX on win8 and server2012.
Is there any app log or other ways to check if I'm using Remote FX on win8 and server 2012.
And another question is "RDP8 support Remote FX with WAN", so is there any policy to enable this function?
IF I select "detect connectionquality automatically", Could I log on remote desktop with Remote FX ?
I Have enabled UPD, Auto detect network , Remote FX ... on server side Win7(Update to RDP8).
And select "detect connection quality automatically" on cliet side(Win7 update to RDP 8).
Then I couldn't using Remote FX.
RDP update stops me using Remote Gateway apps
Hi,
Clients running Win 7 SP1 have received an automatic Windows update (KB2592687) which prevents them from using Remote apps on our 2008 r2 Gateway server. The server has been working well previously for over two years. After this update, clients can be authenticated and then view the remote desktop, but then when they try to use an application, authentication fails.
Win 7 without SP1 client is OK, XP and Vista clients are OK. Uninstalling KB2592687 brings the RDP Client version of 6.2.9200 back down to 6.1.7601 and allows the client to use the gateway function as normal.
Is there anything I can do on the server to fix this besides removing this update on all the clients? The server is fully up to date with Windows updates.
I note that there's another thread on this issue:
which suggests ignoring client certificates will help. In my case, that option was already selected, and so made no difference.
There was a message about certificate corruption in event viewer, after the server updates had been applied. I thought this was the issue, so rebuilt the license database, but that made no difference to the problem.

Error Connecting to server 1st time
I installed a Terminal Server and Gateway on the same machine. When I want to start an Remoteapplication, then I get the following error:
Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want to connect to. Contact your network administrator for assistance.
It doesen't matter which published application I choose. After the error, I can start any published Application successfully. Logout and login again, I get the error for the firstime again.
Its a windows server 2012 Standard. I can't see any error on the Terminal Server, which could match this problem.
Thanks for your help.

Windows Server 2008 R2 TS - Disappearing Taskbar for User Session suddenly

Our Environment- We have a 2 node windows 2008 R2 cluster environment, with office 2007 installed local to the server. File Services & Remote Desktop Services, Application Services Roles are clustered.Shares in the File Services have been connected to the users as Mapped Network Drives. All other drives were hidden. When Users in the Terminal Session are working, suddenly the Taskbar is disappearing. I didnt find any logs in the Event logs and related to that issue or am unable to. Is there a clue to find the root cause. or any event id related to.

"Unable to update local resource group" error
Hello,
I'm having a problem updating one of my local resource groups in RD Gateway Manager.
We're on 2008 R2 SP1, and have a gateway in between us and another company. When a user needs to access their computer in the other company, we add the machine to the local group, and the account the AD RAP group, it works fine.
However, every couple of weeks, it will not allow me to update the local resource group for computers. I receive the error "WMI Failure: Unable to update local resource group" ..and apparently google cannot find another instance of this error happening - no results at all - very odd. So the normal fix is to just recreate the RAP.xml file, then add the machines in again, but this is not a good enough fix long term, plus it misses the machines that are switch off when i recreate.
Also - this will be logged in eventvwr TerminalServices-Gateway
"The resource group "MY GROUP NAME" could not be updated. The following error occurred: "23106". To resolve this issue, ensure that you have configured resource group settings correctly and set the correct value and permissions for the RAP.xml file and the RAPStore registry key."
Google also cannot find anything for that error, OR that 23106 error code - I cannot get results no matter what I do. It cannot be permissions as I've checked them, and it works for a bit. I've ran the WMI diagnostics, and they're fine, no different to any other server in the environment.
I've also checked these forums and there is nothing on there. Does anyone know the relevance of that error code, or where I can check it out?
Cheers,
Jon

RemoteApp/TSGateway Through Proxy
Hi,
We have been asked to use a customer's Remote Desktop Web Services (TS Gateway) to launch a RemoteApp application from their RDP servers over the internet. However, we use a proxy server on site here for internet access, and it seems like RemoteApp apps do not take proxy settings into account... which is a bit of a huge oversight if you ask me. Hopefully I'm just missing something and there is actually a way to specify a proxy for the RemoteApp apps.
We can get onto the customer's Remote Desktop Web Services site, and see the list of apps available, but when we click on one it just opens up an RDP client window that says connecting and eventually times out. If I try it from a PC that is allowed directly out onto the internet without using the proxy then it works fine, and I've unblocked the domain completely from our proxy web filtering system (and confirmed via Wireshark that it is not trying to connect to any other URLs or addresses during the process) but still get the same issue, so it looks like the problem is just that RemoteApp doesn't go through the proxy you have set in IE. Is there any way we can tell it to? Any registry settings etc?
Thanks
Chris

different user profile is loaded when profile exceeds limit in a RD farm
Hello,
We have a newly created RD farm made up with two physical Win2008R2 RDSH.
GPO is in place to redirect user profiles to remote share, also quota is set to 100MB.
Moved some nominated users to this farm a few weeks ago, I then noticed, some users are loaded with different profiles depending on which RDSH server the connection broker sends user to.
For example, user A has a 178MB profile on RDSH1 and 135MB on RDSH2. When he logs on to RDSH1, he has more files than he has on RDSH2.
I've asked users with issues to save files on their network drives.
How can we stop this profile loading issue happening again? ?
I don't want to increase quota size too much. We may implement policy to delete local profile at log off, but can't really do this until this issue is resolved.
Any ideas?
cheers,
KB2592687, USB redirection, RemoteFX and RDP CALs
Hello, I have (in my company) thousands of RemoteFX-enabled RDP 7.1 clients (clients running Windows 7 and hosts running W2K8 R2), we are using it for USB redirection, and it requires to pay RDS CALs.
If I deploy RDP 8.0, and we only need USB redirection (without RemoteFX), do I have to keep paying RDS CALs.
Thats why I think that if we enable RemoteFX we have to play CALs, but if we don't need to have it enabled, we don't have to pay them, do we?

Isolating or eliminating the task of encoding in RDP 8.0's RemoteFX encoder
After having seen how Windows 7 delivers the 3DMark06 benchmark graphics tests and found the user experience to be superior to that delivered by Windows 8, all other conditions being equal, I am very interested in identifying which component in RDP 8's RemoteFX is responsible for bringing down the monitor capture rate so heavily with respect to what Windows 7 is capable of doing.
Broadly speaking, it appears to be the Adaptive Graphics Remote FX encoder that is responsible for throttling the monitor capture rate. I would like to verify this by either isolating the encoding task on a separate GPU (I do not have a separate ASIC encoder at present) or by eliminating it wholly.
Can anyone suggest means of achieving either isolation or elimination of the RemoteFX encoder in a lab setup?
Cheers,
Etienne
