Cannot connect remotely to home PC from office

$

Hi

I have a Speedtouch router at home with several PCs connected. I want to be able to access one of those machines from my office. I changed the router to forward port 3389 to the local (static) IP address of the relevant home PC. I also set the PC to allow remote desktop connections both locally and publically. I determined the external IP address of my router using whatismyip.com.

I am unable to connect from the office. Both office and home PCs are running Windows 7 Ultimate. It still fails if I switch the firewall off on the home PC.

I can connect via logmein in a browser. I can also connect using another local PC (also Windows 7 Ultimate) at home.

I've tried using PortQry from the office and it resolves the IP to a name but declares  port as 'FILTERED'

If I do a net stat -a -o on the home PC, it appears to show port 3389 as listening.

Is there a chance there is something I need to change on the office PC to make this happen?

I am tearing my hair out. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Folder Redirection Refresh Issue

Hi There,

I have a cluster of servers running 2008R2 and Citrix. GPOs are applied to effect folder redirection for desktop, docs, favorites, etc.

The issue is that when a folder or file is created on the desktop, you have to refresh the desktop in order to see the files.

It appears as though the issue was fixed in this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2525332, but my version of shell32.dll is already newer than the version called out in this hotfix. I am running 6.1.7601.22015 in production -- a version that was updated due to a security patch for remote code execution in this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2691442.

My hunch is that the security fix was "rapid release" or whatever and failed to include the code in the hotfix that came before it and fixed the desktop refresh issue. Can anyone point me toward a list of hotfixes that contain a newer shell32.dll so that I can start to figure out which versions introduce this bug and which versions fix it?

I've tried various values for NoRemoteChangeNotify registry keys and similar. Those options do not fix this problem.

Thanks,
Dave

We have configured Remote App on Windows 2008 SP2 (non-R2) thru terminal services.

Remote App hosts a 16bit Foxpro application which requires printing to redirected printer. We have done following steps

  1. installed drivers of all the printers which might be redirected
  2. Changed GPO "Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Device and Resource Redirection" to enable redirection
  3. tried to map redirected printer using net use LPT1: \\tsclient\prn1 ot 10 but got following error each time

System Error 66 has occurred

The network resource type is not correct

We want to enable 16bit dos printing to redirected printer in remote app.

Remote FX RDS requirements

$

Normally, I can figure just about anything out except for RemoteFX on Windows Server 2012 Datacenter version

Here is the scenario:

1)  I have two servers running Hyper-V let us call them Server A and Server B.  The video cards support RemoteFX

2)  I have installed the Remote Desktop Virtualization Host on Server A and on Server B

3)  Under Hyper-V, I can even add a RemoteFX graphics card to a VM

Here is the problem - says it cannot find license server on Server A or Server B- ok, I install license server on Server A, add CALS (50 per user), activate server, add to AD terminal server list, it shows success.  Still cannot find license server.

So I added Connection Broker and a few other pieces - same issue

When I go to RDS in Server manager, I have two options

1)  Overview - message states A RDS deployment does not exist in the server pool.

2)  Servers

So WHAT RDS features must be installed to simply use RemoteFX on a Hyper-V machine?  Do I already have too much installed?  Do I need to install VDI?

As a side note, I need redirection as I want to use work images off my laptop through a VM - kind of like I do with VMWare Workstation but sick of the VMWare upgrade costs.  Is this the best way to go or should I be thinking about VDI.  performance and use of a webcam, accelerated graphics, etc. is key to this working.

Thanks

Tim

RemoteFX 3D performance tuning against the limited video memory

Hi, I have setup a server 2012 with hyper-v to test the remoteFX, and the NVIDIA M2070Q is installed on the server R720.

I Have run some games suchas WOW, warcraft on the VM which have 8GB memory and 4 cores, and it's very slow during to the limited video memory.

However ,  this video "FreeRDP Diablo III RemoteFX Demo" shows the remotefx performance is ok!

So which optimazation need i do on the server or I have missed something?

I have followed the guide provided by Microsoft and do every group policy on the AD. but the result is almostly same and can not  reach the performance showd by the video on the youtube .

Please do me a favour to teach me how to do more optimazation.

Thank you so much!

Best regards.

RDP from Server2012 to 5 local thinclients only

Hi,

I have browsed several documents and books on RDP describing any concievable scenario in the world.

I just want to connect 5 thinclients (HP T510) to a 2012 server, providing just a private desktop to each of these *locally connected* clients.  No gateway, remoteapp, webservice etc.. needed.

Does it exist info somewhere on how to setup such a 'traditional' server while avoiding everything I don't need in this sceanrio?

Thanks a lot for comments and help on this.

Only a few RDS sessions cannot be remote controlled 2008r2

Within the past month I have lost the ability to remote control NEW users(in the last 30 days)-both parties get a black screen. I can still access legacy users and control them as usual. I have been doing research and I have found that I can get to them using the shadow command but still cannot from the manager. All (RDS and AD) servers are 2008r2, clients are HP thin clients. Anyone else experience this?

Configure RD Gateway to work without AD

Is it possible to add and configure RD Gateway role to a Server 2012 instance without setting up AD?

I've already tried it and it turns out that I can setup everything (even licensing) except the RD Session Host, which in my experience required AD.

The scenario is quite simple: I have limited number of PCs in the local network and I need to be able to access them via RD. I do not need RemoteApp or any other functionalities.

RDGW 2012 in Workgroup and DMZ supported?

$

Hello Forum,

Iam testing with a server 2012 RDGW server in our DMZ to forward RDP-Packets in our internal LAN. The Server is not a member of our Domain. Iam able to establish connections from the internet to our LAN-Machines, but have to deal with local groups and users on the RDGW.

My questions: Is that a supported scenario in Server 2012? I will not make the RDGW a member of our Domain because of the security risks an all the open ports into our LAN.

And if it is supported, how is it possible to connect it to a scenario based installed RDP-Environment in Windows Server 2012?

Thanks in advance

Roaming profiles set by GPO fails with no error

$

Hi All,

I have a Windows 2012 server with all the relevant RDS roles installed and a Windows 2012 file server.

I wish to use Group Policy to set romaing profiles for all RDS users, the policy in question is:

Computer Configuration > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Session Host > Profiles > "Set path for RDS user romaing profile"

I have set the profile path to be \\TTLCloudFP01\profiles$

This does not seem to create a profile, even after I have logged off and rebooted the server to make sure the GPO is in effect. If I create the profile path in AD profiles section it does create a roaming profie but, if I do this in AD in the Remote Desktop Services section it does not.

No event logs are generated on either the RDS server of my file sever. I am stuck! Can anyone suggest any further trouble shooting I can do to resolve this? I have this exact same configuration working at other sites, but it is all server 2008 R2, I wonder if this is an issue specific to 2012.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

RD Broker not appearing on Web Access server

I've set up Remote Desktop Hosts, a Broker and a Web Access server and configured the various group memberships etc.

However When I log on to the Web access server it does not automatically show my broker on the 'Remote Desktop' page, all I get is;

Enter the name of the remote computer that you want to connect to, specify options, and then click Connect.

If I manually enter the name of the connection Broker it connects correctly

How do I get the site to automatically list the Broker

RDS Farm sporadically diables remote logons

$

I have a very odd issue in our RDS farm. We have three servers:

ConTSB - runs RDS Connection Broker and licensing server
ConTS1 - RDS Host Server
ConTS2 - RDS Host Server

At random intervals, when my users attempt to login our RDS farm they will get the dreaded "Remote Logins are disabled". The only we have found to correct this issue is to restart the RDS Connection Broker servers on ConTSB. However, this is a temporary solution as the broker will again fail and we have to restart the service again.

I have gone through the event logs with a fine toothed comb and there are no entries on the host or connection broker server that relate to disabling the remote logins. I have scoured the net for others with this error and I have found nothing. Any help or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciates as it has been plaguing us for about six months now...

Resize cursor missing for some users?

Windows server 2012 standard remote desktop services:

I have some users that do not get a resize cursor when trying to resize any window in desktop mode.

I have other users who are configured exactly the same on the same server who do get a resize cursor.

Is there some kind of touch mode setting or bug?

Thanks,

Bryan

2008 R2 with SP1 running as Session Host and RDP 8 Update doesn't seem to add expected RDP 8 features

Morning,

I've just installed the relevant updates to a 2008 R2 (with SP1) Session Host but can't see the new Group Policy settings to enable the new RDP 8 features (as I've done with Windows 7 machiens running in a VDI environment).

Am I missing something or does the RDP 8 update not work with the Session Host role installed?

Cheers for now

Hello

I would like to use the Foundation server as a host for Form Applications using RDP or equivalent.
I have som applications I want to use with several clients (remote).
I am not interested to view the desktop at the client site, only the application(s).

Can this be done with the server 2012 Foundation?

Recently Used Programs on Start Menu - clearing for new users

$

When a new user logs into our RDS environment, a roaming profile is created for them.  However, the Start Menu shows recently used programs (Notepad, Internet Explorer, and Command Prompt).  Notepad and Internet Explorer even shows Recent files if you hover over the small arrows pointing to the right.

How do I get rid of this for all users?  Is it under C:\Users\Default?  Registry?  GPO?

Our RDS environment is Windows 2008 R2

2008R2 Remote Desktop - Start menu customisation issues

$

I'm in the process of moving a client from Server 2003 to Server 2008R2 Remote Desktop Services and I've hit the following issues to which I can't find a solution:

1. How can I remove the Search Everywhere box from the Start Menu for most users.

2. How can I pin program shortcuts to the Start Menu using GPP?

3. Is there a way to give users access to printers without also exposing devices?

Thanks

Populate User Pinned Start Menu and Taskbar - Win Server 2008 R2

$

I want to populate the User Pinned for the Start Menu and Taskbar when a new user (blank profile) logs into our RDS environment.  I copied Internet Explorer.lnk, Microsoft Outlook 2010.lnk, and Windows Explorer.lnk to both folders:

C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\StartMenu
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

Strange behavior: The user's profile ends up having two Windows Explorer lnk files in their Quick Launch folder (exact same name - does not have (1) tacked to the end).

The net result, though, is the Start Menu does not have any pinned items (although it does have Recently Used Apps and Files listed - another problem I want to solve - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverTS/thread/0cfa7a67-9133-4cc4-a8e7-bab820a28cca/#0cfa7a67-9133-4cc4-a8e7-bab820a28cca) and the Taskbar has a lone Windows Explorer icon (which is probably how the 2nd Windows Explorer lnk is created in the Quick Launch/Taskbar folder - not sure where it is coming from).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
