RDP-Connection from batch without entering password

$

Hi,

Is there a way to start a remote desktop session without manually entering the credentials (domain, user, password) to a other machine?

I tried saving the to a rdp file, but the password seems missing.

Is there a way saving it, so that I can double Click the batch or rdp file and start a remote session without further interaction?

Grant non admin shadow rights, legwork done

I've configured the below group policy verified that it has applied to the server and gpupdate /force /sync plus a reboot

Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote desktop Session Host\Connections\Set rules for remot control of Remote Desktop user sessions: ENABLED, View Session without user's permission

I've also configured the RDP-TCP rights by allowing the built in remote desktop users to have full control, then restarted the server.

When I RDP into the box with a generic account I can only use shadow.exe to mirror it with an admin, the non administrator account that has FULL rights to RDP-TCP gets the below

Remote control failed. error code 5

Error [5]:Access is denied

I've searched around pretty thoroughly, and this should be working. What am I missing?

Terminal Windows 2008 R2 roaming profile.

Hi,

I have a question about Windows 2008 R2 Terminal server with 3 language installed. English default with Germany and Dutch. I create a GPO for that language with user group.

We are using roaming profile and everything works fine when the user logon on his desktop. they can use his application, office, etc.
When the users click on his username on his/her desktop user can see double icons like Desktop, My documents, My pictures etc.

If the user logon with the Dutch/English / Germany language he see also double icons with same language. When I click on the icons I see the different:
Example:

Dutch user:

1 icon C:\Gebruikers\Whe\My Documents  (local C: drive on the server)
2'nd icon: \\myfileserver\whe\My Documents (network share on the file server)

English user:

1 icon C:\users\WKL\My Documents  (local C: drive on the server)
2'nd icon: \\myfileserver\WKL\My Documents (network share on the file server)

When the users use his file explorer he doesn't have the C drive or like locally drives only network shares. It is only that icon on his desktop with his/her username on it.
What do I wrong or how can I make sure that users logon to the server with different language that they can see only one icon when they click on his username on the desktop that the user can see only my documents that refer to network share and not also the icon locally.

Kind regards,

How to get the keys for Microsoft Office 2013 from Microsoft Open Licence Order confirmation

I was able to download the iso file of the Microsoft Office (OfficeStd 2013 SNGL OLP NL Acdmc) and install it to 7 computer according to the license agreement. I don't know where to find the keys to validate these installation as required by Microsoft Office. I need  help please. I bought the License from a Computer Equipment  Business and this License confirmation is all I have so the reference http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/buy/using-the-product-key-card-FX101853163.aspx is useless for me . I already tried.

Failed to ReCreate Some Virtual Desktops in VDI Pool

$

I am running Server 2012 Datacenter.  I have a VDI pool with 10 desktops.  For the sake of simplicity, we'll say they are named Desktop-0 through Desktop-9.  Whenever I need to modify the template, I use the "Recreate All Virtual Desktops" task.  Usually, this works fine, but I need to know what to do when it gets interrupted.  Because, for instance, Windows Server Backup will interrupt it, and certain other tasks can interrupt it as well.  Today's attempt to do the recreate left two desktops missed because users were logged into them and they didn't get logged out before something else caused an interruption.  I can still view the task status details, but they go away every time Windows Server Backup runs (I am using Windows Server Backup temporarily until I can get System Center configured).  The task details currently look like this:

8/10 virtual desktops were successfully recreated.

2 virtual desktops failed.

Desktop-0 Complete
Desktop-1 Complete
Desktop-2 Complete
Desktop-3 Complete
Desktop-4 Failed: Failed to lock VM
Desktop-5 Complete
Desktop-6 Complete
Desktop-7 Failed: The operation has been cancelled.
Desktop-8 Complete
Desktop-9 Complete

Is there anything I can do to get those desktops to recreate?  I didn't have any luck trying to get any of the PowerShell commands I found to do individual desktops this way, and the GUI doesn't appear to have a way to do that.  I haven't tried running the "Recreate All Virtual Desktops" task again because I won't be able to have all users log out before it is interrupted at this time.  While it wouldn't be ideal, should that work?  Additionally, in the meantime, will the two failed desktops continue to function on the old version of the template?

Event 1530 when every Remote Desktop user logs off. RDS Windows 2008 R2.

Redirected Printers, should not be overlapping sessions...

Our Remote Desktop users and Redirected Printers.   Every login after the first they're getting what clearly appears to be the current + previous sessions multiple redirected printer sessions #s.  Very frustrating.  See attached image.

This really hints of the previous Login Sessions not closing properly, user profile logjam.

We're now focusing on the Event 1530 errors as a likely culprit.   This event occurs at every user Log off.  Below an a typical example of the event.

We read numerous forum posts and tried many of the suggestions.
1. Yes we have disabled Printer Redirection in Group Policy, same events occur
2. Yes we tried the UPHClean service which was popular back with W2K3 Terminal Server, it won't install on 2008 R2 and as its been replaced the MS User Profile Service.
3. No A/V software installed, no MSE or Defender.
4. User Profiles are at default location, on C:\Users\ of RDS Host.  Very simple new setup.

Do we need to research these Processes shown below individually?  Process 652 shown twice?  Or any other solution you can suggest allowing the Redirected Printers to refresh/clear user profiles properly.    How do we rid ourselves of Event 1530?

"start program on connection" setting not working

In the Remote Desktop client, I specify a program to "Start the following program on connection". The program should be launched immediately upon successful connection (i.e. no desktop is presented).

As I am not intending to install a License Server (the allowed default of two sessions are sufficient for my purposes), I  would rather not install the Terminal Services role solely to access this feature. In fact, I wish to use the "Remote Desktop for Administration" licensing mode and I don't believe this is available if the Terminal Services role is installed.

How can a get a specific app (MSACCESS.EXE) to run when this uses logong with RD and logoff when the appis closed?

Thanks

Thank you Morris

TS Web & RD Web RDP connection problem

$

Summary:

  • Problem using Remote Apps & RDP from "RDWeb" interface when accessed from the public internet.

Background:

  • Currently have, 1 x Windows Server 2008 TS Web Access & 1 x Windows Server 2008 R2 RD Web Access setup.
  • Both are configured to use remote apps inc RDP.
  • Both allow login to the web interfaces (Prompts for login when connection to URL).
  • Both allow RDP connections internally and work correctly without problems.
  • Both have Digicert SSLs installed, tested as valid.
  • These are standalone installations and not in a Farm.

Issue:

TSWeb (Server 2008) works correctly and allows RDP connection to itself from the "Remote Apps"

RDWeb (Server 2008 R2) does not and the RDP connection errors:

"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is temporarily unavailable. Try reconnecting later or contact your network administrator for assistance"

I am trying to connection to the RDWeb server externally from a Windows 7 PC (RDP 6.2.9200). If I click the "Remote Desktop" selection on the TS Web Interface, I can also RDP to other Windows Server 2003 terminal servers, however any other Server 2008 R2 servers to not work.

Questions:

  1. Is there something being missed in the configuration?
  2. Are there any fundimental differences between Server 2008 TS Web and Server 2008 R2 RDWeb? (Security etc?)
  3. Would someone also be able to clarify the need to open port 3389 on the firewall, my understanding was that RDP (3389) should be wrapped in the HTTPS (443) traffic therefore only 443 would need to be opened. Unfortunately we have had to allow 3389 on the firewall for RDP connections to function from the outside work and get TSWeb working correctly. I presume I have misconfiguration reading this post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverTS/thread/d5906eb8-9a08-42b0-bdd8-356383401554

Move Windows 2003 Terminal Server Licensing Server to Windows 2012

HI,

I need some assistance please. I have a client who has a Windows 2003 DC with Terminal Server licensing running on this server.  We are going to install new DC's with Windows Server 2012 and I have been asked to look into the impact of the Terminal Server Licensing.

Can I move the 2003 License Server to Windows 2012 Desktop Services Licensing without any issues?  Will 2012 RDS Licensing distribute 2003 CAL's?

Server 2012 Multi GPU RemoteFX

We are looking to virtualize some CAD workstations using Server 2012 with RemoteFX, but I haven't been able to find much information on support for multiple GPUs.  For instance, if we have a server with 2 physical GPUs, would Windows pool the resources of those 2 cards and allow us to run 4 or 5 VMs, each with a vGPU?  Would we need to use CrossFire or SLI to get support for multiple graphics cards?

RDP8 on Windows 8 and Windows 7 is not the same (performance)

$

Hello,

I tested on different PCs with RDP8 Update on Windows 7 an with Windows 8, connections to a Windows Server 2012 RDP Machine. In the RDPCore Eventlog on the destination Server i always get the information, that the connection supports RDP8 and the latency is under 50ms (always WAN situation). The Client reports an good or excelent connection without using UDP Protocol (because of ruleset on firewall) But the problem is, that connections from Windows 7 PCs are always more laggy than from Windows 8 PCs. Its not the same user experience. Anyone with the same experience?

Greetings

All of a sudden I cannot login to my RDS Session server. It is telling that no license server can be found. However the license server is configured and on the session server running the RD License Diagnoser on the ailing computer shows no problems to report. I shows the name of the license server and when selected it shows the number of licenses available as 72. I am a loss to figure out the issue.

Idle Sessions: users that are disconnected via GPO are unable to reconnect.

$

Hello,

I'm having an issue with our Terminal Server Cluster.

Recently, we have been getting a ton of corrupt profiles on users on our network (350+ active sessions daily across 8 Terminal Servers) so to combat the issue I have tried by adding the policy that disconnects idle session to 2 hours and then terminates disconnected sessions after 1 hour. It has been working great, except for one small problem.....

When a idle user is disconnected they are unable to reconnect to their session, I have to manually disconnect there session in RDSM for the user to reconnect.

My thinking is that if a idle session is disconnected the user has 1 hour to login back in to maintain there session, but it appears that logical thinking isn't working correctly because users are unable to reconnect to their disconnected sessions.

Does anyone have any suggestions? - I'm thinking I have to change the disconnected session TTL to less than a 5 minutes so that the disconnected session don't become corrupt. There just doesn't seem like a viable option, IMHO, to allow a disconnected session to still live in memory for a user to re-use.

My end game goal is to save resources on a server or at-least auto-save documents or files before a user is disconnected.... but I'm sure that's a dream of most IT professionals....just a dream....

LIMITAZIONE PROGRAMMI SU WINDOWS SERVER 2008

Unable to set Roaming Profile location VIA GPO - User Logon Failed - Registry setting works

$

I have a really confusing roaming profile issue on my hands...

We utilize roaming profiles and folder redirection in our RDS environment (Citrix, for what its worth). We dont utilize roaming profiles for users logging on via desktops; only when they come in through Citrix. This is a user experience configuration - mostly so that when a user configures their Outlook (or wahtever application...) the way they want - their settings remain.

My predecessor configured our original roaming profiles on the environment. A few days ago, i decided to break a few of our groups up into different roaming profile stores, separated by line of business. Think of the following ou structure as a guide, as the users server they are accessing will determine which GPO and TS location they use...

Core Busines (GPO1 applied)

Line of business 1 (GPO2 applied)

Line of business 2 (GPO3 applied)

Line of business 3 (GPO4 applied)

Essentially i wanted all 3 groups to store their roaming profiles in different locations. The following directory structure applies...

GPO1 = Base Configurations for environment + TS location \\server1\Core-Profiles

GPO2 = TS location \\server1\Line1-Profiles

GPO3 = TS location \\server1\Line2-Profiles

GPO4 = NO TS CONFIGURATION - Utilize local profile

SO NOW THE CONFUSING PART...

I created the GPO's and linked them to the appropriate OUs. When i move a server into one of the sub OUs and attempt to login via Citrix, TS starts to launch and then BOOM - "The User Profile Service Failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded". Reboots do not resolve this issue. I  move the server back to the original OU, with the original base location (\\server1\core-profiles), reboot, and everything works fine.

If i manually go into the registry at this point, and edit the registry key for roaming profiles (hklm/software/policies/microsoft/windows nt/terminals ervices/WFProfileFPath) to my intended location (\\server1\Line2 for example...) everything works without a hitch. The new user profile is created in that directory, and the user is able to login. If i run a GPUpdate /force, the registry key is switched back to the original location, and user is able to login with the profile going to original location. If i move the server to the different OU and reboot again - unsuccessful. I receive the failed logon error. If at this point, with the server in the NEW OU, i attempt to change the registry key to the original file location (where it was working...) - User profile fails to logon successfully.

I have deleted all of the correct ProfileList registry keys, i have deleted all roaming profiles, i have deleted all local user profiles. None of these settings makes any difference. I receive the identical same treatmeant either way. I have duplicated this exact same scenario across 5 different servers in my TS environment.

Really hope someone has an answer to this one...

very slow when accessing redirected drives!

$

Hi all,

we have RDS environment running windows server 2008 r2, and we allow drive redirection so that users can browse to their local drives.

workstations are windows XP SP3 and 7 SP1, and some windows 8

the problem is that when users access their workstations drives and try to navigate through lots of folders, it's very slow to list the folders and every time they switch to another folder it takes too long listing the folder and the window would lock and they can't do anything until it's done.

so my question is, what can be done to prevent this problem from happening and speed up the process of listing the folders?
