RD Gateway Error - Network or Server Configuration Error

$

I am relatively new to networking, so please excuse me if I do not provide enough detail.  I am willing to answer whatever questions arise.

I have a server running 08R2 in my company's DMZ, it is not joined to the domain.  It is also an RD License host.   We are using an application that requires RD Gateway to be configured to RDP back to devices internal to our network.  I have configured RD gateway with CAPs & RAPs as well as a valid and correctly named SSL cert for security.  However, when I attempt to test the Gateway (which is in the DMZ) from my device (internal to the network) I am getting the error that the certificate has expired or has been revoked.  My thought is that since the certificate has the FQDN but the device is not joined to the domain, that possibly a name mismatch is what is causing the error.  Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated!

Hi all,

We have one farm which includes two Windows 2008 R2  terminal servers

We create A record farm which two terminal server names in a DNs server

Farm  A    server1

Farm A server2

But, when users connect to farm, they always connect to the server 2.

I want users to connect to the server1 which is at production site.

How do I make users to connect server1 first at production site when they connect to farm?

Thank you for your help.

RDWeb Access - Launch RemoteApp hosted on virtual machine

I've assigned a user to a virtual machine (Windows XP).
Is it possible for the user to click an icon, for example MSPaint on the RDWeb Access page, and it launches the program within the user's virtual machine?

In my test environment this is NOT working.
When I click MSPaint the connection does nothing for 30 seconds and crashes.
When I click details this is the error I get.

"The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?
This problem can occur if the remote computer is running a version of Windows that is earlier than Windows Vista, or the remote computer is not configured to support server authentication."

If I click yes, I get...
"The Remote Computer does not support RemoteApp."

I feel like I maybe trying to use Terminal Services in a way it was not designed for.

Documentation that Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services requires RDP 6.0 or above

It's my understanding that RDS on Server 2008 R2 requires RDP 6.0 or above.  But I need official documentation of that requirement.  Does anyone know where I can find it?

Hello. Is there a way to run RemoteApp (server 2008) so that the application runs in either a vm on the connected host or runs on the PC where the RDS was launched?

You must change your password before logging on the first time. For assistance, contact your system administrator or technical support

We have several users connecting to our Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server farm via remote desktop. Most users connect from remote offices when we create a new login for these remote users, we select the option "User must change password at next logon" and they get an error message that says "You must change your password before logging on the first time. For assistance, contact your system administrator or technical support" and disconnects.

Is there a workaround for this problem or we made an mistake choosing Microsoft products.

I just set up Windows 2008 R2 Server and went through installing the RDS role all was fine till I installed and activated RDS licensing server.

now when I attampt to connect through RDP I get this msg "Remote Desktop Disconnected" Becuase of a security error, the client  could not connect to the remote computer. Verify that you are logged onto the network and then try connecting again.

I found this

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2477176

I verified all of the items listed and I thought that I solved the problem on the last item which it said to delete the x500 certificates which I did. I rebooted I was able to log on remotely. However that was short lived. As it turns out as soon as I log on, the registry entries are repopulated and I no longer can log on via RDP.

Can anybody explain how to fix this permanantly.

Well i published desktop connection in TS web access over ISA 2006 and it works fine. Also I added the calculator and wordpad aplication  like remote aplication in the TS Web Access web site. When i connect to the remote aplication (Calculator and wordpad) over TS web access web site  it show me an error " RemoteApp Disconnected - The remote computer colud not be found, please contact you Helpdesk about this error". i don't know why it show me that error, because when i connect for remote desktop through ts web access web site it works fine.

Somebody can help me for fix this problem?

RDP screen goes black after successful remote login

I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates.  Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.

Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.

The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.

I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.

I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do?  Any ideas about what might cause this?

I have install Office 2010 and Remoteapp Program on One of windows 2012 server. I can open the word from rdweb without problem. However, I have these questions.

  • Whenever I open thhps://win2012/rdweb and click Word to open it, it keep asking for username and password. Since I am in a domain computer, can we integrate centennials with AD like Outlook without entering password?
  • How can I create rdp file and distribute it to users?

Folder Redirection and Black Screen at Logoff

Hi,

We have 4 new HP blade Servers running Windows 2008 R2 that are being used for our RDS Farm. We are using Roaming Profiles together with Desktop and My Documents Folder Redirection (all stored on a VMware virtual Windows 2008 R2 File Server, in two separate shares). The Local cached profiles are deleted at logoff.

I first noticed an issue when the users were assigned new profile folders at logon (i.e. username.domainname.001, ....002,.....003). There were also some entries in the Event Log:

Windows cannot delete the profile directory C:\Users\username.local.004. This error may be caused by files in this directory being used by another program.

DETAIL - The directory is not empty.

Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

I came across some similar postings and I used Process Monitor and Process Explorer to try and pinpoint what app could be preventing the locally cached profile from being deleted and holding onto those registry files. The only culprit was explorer.exe. The folders left behind would vary and sometimes they would contain files (e.g. index.dat, thumbcache) and sometimes they would be empty. The type of folders would be:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

I uninstalled the AV client and also ran msconfig to disable all non Microsoft Services – this didn’t make any difference.  I disabled the deletion of cache profiles and this only solved the first error, not the registry issue. This also resulted in a black screen appearing for approx 5mins when the users logged off.

I next tried disabling the folder redirection policy and this fixed the problem - no more registry key errors or black screen at logoff. I did come across another posting where someone had an issue with the Desktop Redirection. I tried enabling the redirection of My Documents but removing Desktop Redirection. This seems to be working now. Has anyone come across this issue or might help with an explanation?

Missing Radio buttons when using RDC for Mac 2.1 to access Win7x64 VM.

Been struggling with this annoyance for a while.  I use Remote Desktop Connection for Mac to access a variety of Windows client and server VMs.  I always have a problem with the win 7 x64 VM that I access the most frequently.  I've regularly see missing radio buttons and other odd UI behaviour access this VM.  Here is a screen shot.  The dialog box on the right is the original box that appears when I choose to open an excel file from the excel web app hosted within sharepoint 2010.  note that the two option radio buttons are visually not present as I see them from the Remote Desktop Connection for Mac application.  The left side of the image is the snipping tool within win 7 capturing the same dialog box.. note that the radio buttons appear as normal.  If I access this same VM using RDC from a physical win 7 machine all the radio buttons appear as normal.  I've seen the same behaviour when remoteing to Win server 2008R2 also.

I've seen similar visual issues in some program installers where radio buttons are missing and also in a VB6 custom app where buttons exist but some icons in a menu bar have no colour at all - just a white pixels where the colours of the button image should be.

I've used a few other third party applications (CoRD and iTap) on the Mac and these programs render the buttons and icons correctly whereas the Microsoft Mac app does not render the buttons correctly.  Has anyone else experienced problems with this and found a solution?

For completeness I'm using Remote Desktop Connection for Mac 2.1 and Mac OS X 10.7.4 (but I've also used 10.6.8 with similar issues).

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

RDS Server 2012 Problem - Cannot Remove Previously Assigned VDI desktops and RemoteApps from Users.

$
0
0

Scenario:

Users assigned 3-4 RemoteApps and a Pooled Desktop during pilot phase.  Connection Broker and RDWEB Server remain the same during production rollout. The test Session and Virtual Desktop Collections were removed, and new ones created.

Accessing either the RDweb page through a browser or via the Start Screen Remote Desktop App, users who participated in both the pilot and production phases are presented with both the new working remoteapps and desktops, as well as their former assigned ones.  The old ones do not actually work, giving an instant "can't connect" error, but because many of the assigned apps are the same as those used in production, the resulting duplicate tiles / icons are problematic to say the least.

How does one clear these from the users' RDS assignments?

Remote Desktop to Windows 2003 Server SP2 when Domain Controller is unavailable

$

I know this is a Win2008 forum, but I found a problem with Windows Server 2003 SP2 which might still be in Win2008, and I wanted others to avoid the same problem.

The problem: domain-member Windows Server 2003 SP2 machines prevent cilents from connecting via Remote Desktop unless the server can contact the domain-- even if the server has cached credentials available for the domain account the client is trying to use.  This domain-disconnected case is probably common in Home Office scenarios, where machines occasionally connect to the domain (via RAS) but generally log in via cached credentials.

Windows XP doesn't have the same problem, nor did (I'm nearly certain) Windows Server RTM.  Somewhere along the way of patches and service packs, I believe my server lost the ability to use cached domain credentials for authenticating a Remote Desktop session.

The error I get in the Remote Desktop client is this:
The system cannot log you on due to the following error:
The specified domain either does not exist or cannot be contacted

On the server's event log, I get two errors: one in the Application Log and one in the System Log.  Below are the contents of those events (I removed domain & acocunt names for privacy)

- #1: NETLOGON event ID = 5719 in the System Log:
This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain [DOMAIN] due to the following:
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator.

- #2: NETLOGON event ID = 1219 in the Application Log:
Logon rejected for [DOMAIN\ACCOUNT]. Unable to obtain Terminal Server User Configuration. Error: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

Anyway, I'm going to post the answer in a follow-up post so I can mark it as the answer. :-)

Good Morning,

After creating a RemoteApp Collection with 2 RD Session Host Servers and try to connect via RDP i get the follwing error:

Its also not possible to start remoteapps from this RD Session host, its starting only on one of the host.

I'm sure that it really just a DNS Issue, but i'm not sure how to fix it :)
