Regrading full windows drag in remoteapp
Hi,
I've set up the "disable full window drag:i:1" setting in the rdp file for a remoteapp program, but it does not work.
Using windows 7, RDP 7.1 (haven't upgraded to 8.0).
Doesn't this setting work for remoteapps?
Thanks
2012 RDS and publishing full desktop and lockdown
Hi.
I have a lot of customers that today run thinclients against 2008/2008R2 RDS and full desktop, not remoteapps.
I'm working on a proof of concept for the 2012 RDS. I have made a Farm with one RCB and two Session Hosts. I have made a collection and set up DNS.
The farm is alive and I can log onto the servers with users.
What was missing in 2008 R2, and what is missing even more in 2012 seems to be a way to pin items to the taskbar and / or startmenu. Is it possible to publish apps to the new startmenu? Any possibility to customize it at all? So far I can't find any...
Are the MSFT Server team sleeping at the wheel FIX REMOTE FX!!

2012 RemoteApp: file associations windows 8 only?
Cannot connect to Virtual Desktops in unmanaged pool
Hi there,
for testing purposes we recently configured RemoteDesktopServices on Windows Server 2012.
We installed:
- 1 RD-Gateway-Server,
- 1 Lizencing-Server,
- 1 Virtualization-Host and
- 1 RD-ConnectionBroker that is also hosting the RD-WebAccess-role.
In the next step we set up 2 syspreped VD "Gold-Images", one with Windows 7 x64 SP1, one with Windows 8 x64, created two managed collections with 5 VMs in each an connected to both collections using RD-WebAccess successfully.
Next we successfully created an "unmanaged collection" containing 5 identically configured VMs with Windows 8 x64, butcould not connect to this Virtual Desktops using RD-WebAccess.
(To create these "unmanaged" VMs we uses the product "vDesktops" from QUEST-Software, which we successfully used to create unmanaged pools on Windows Server 2008R2 RDS-ConnectionBroker/WebAccess without any connection problems).
The Events logged on RD-ConnectionBroker 2012 are the following:
In TS-SessionBroker Operational: 800 (OK) but then 819 (instead of 801 - 787 - 818)
In TS-SessionBroker Admin: 802
In TS-SessionBroker-Client Operational: 1301 (OK) but then 1296 and1306 (instead of 1307)
Has anyone any solution to this Problem?
Thanks in advance, Peter

Windows 8 and RD gateway not working!
I have Windows server 2008 (not R2) server running RD gateway and now finding that any client that has upgraded to windows 8 can longer connect via the RD Gateway server. We are using domain\username to log in as we have always done with windows 7 RDP client (which just worked). After reading a number of posts where certain "fixes" or "workarounds" have worked sadly none of these appear to apply to our setup.
I have made sure that ignore client certificates is set to ignore and restarted IIS, I have chacked the server logs and there are no failed logon events, in fact the authentication succeeds but the session isn't created.
Running out of ideas now...any help?

Licenses needed
Hello,
I need to setup a Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 Server (or maybe a Windows 2012), from which I need an IE running a web application.
Both the server and the application should be accessed by all the employees of the company.
Unfortunately, I have two problems.
First, we do not have an AD domain (we have SAMBA OpenLDAP), and on a previous server I didn't find any solution until now to install TS CALS with the Server being in the Domain. It works only just when it is in Workgroup. And of course, I need to create local users and so on. The first question would be: It is possible to install CALS per user with the computer outside the AD Domain? On my previos server, even if I have already activated the licenses, I am still in grace period and it support multiple connections from more users, but I don't know after the grace period will expire if the per user licensing will work. Also, by per user Licensing mode, where/how do I specify users which may connect to the Server (or do I not need to specify them) ? (without AD, the computer being just in workgroup).
Secondly, I don't know exactly for the server I want to setup now, what licenses do I need? I found on some forums that there exist simple CALs and RDS CALs, but I don't understand very well the difference. I need that all the users from workgroup to be able to login to the server (around 20 users), and also the server to support around 10 simultan connections from different users. Could you please tell me which type of licenses and how many do I need? As I already said, I just use from the Terminal Server an IE that runs an online application. (The question is also for my first server, if I also need other licenses in order to support multiple users login after grace period will expire)
Thank you very much for your help! Any answer will be highly appreciated.

RDS Certificates
I’m carrying out my first deployment of Remote Desktop Servers using Windows Server 2008 R2.
The goal is to have full Remote Desktop and RDWeb RemoteApps available on the internal LAN and to have a RD Gateway in DMZ but joined to AD Domain to provide external access to full Remote Desktop only.
I’m confused as to how the certificate side of things should be configured in the above RDS deployment, Say I have the following servers and DNS records:
Server | FQDN | Role | Additional AD DNS | External DNS |
RDS01 | RDS01.abc.xyz.local | Connection Broker / RDWeb | rdsweb.abc.xyz.local (CNAME) |
|
RDS02 | RDS02.abc.xyz.local | Gateway |
| rdsgateway.sub.domain.com |
Server1 | Server1.abc.xyz.local | Licence Server |
|
|
RDSSH01 | RDSSH01.abc.xyz.local | Session Host | rds.abc.xyz.local (Farm Name) |
|
RDSSH02 | RDSSH02.abc.xyz.local | Session Host | rds.abc.xyz.local (Farm Name) |
|
RDSSH03 | RDSSH03.abc.xyz.local | Session Host | rds.abc.xyz.local (Farm Name) |
|
Web and Technet forum searches will throw up different ways to implement Certificates and different Certificates to use.
Ideally I’d like to get a single cert cut from an external Certificate authority (SAN Cert?) – would this work in the deployment scenario above?
If so do I need to get all of the internal FQDNs as well as all the 2 internal and 1 external DNS names added to the cert? – Or would I not need to add the FQDN of the Licence server?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Remotefx media streaming under Windows 7
I've been reading some of the blogs:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/08/16/enabling-a-seamless-multimedia-experience-with-remotefx-media-streaming-in-windows-server-2012-and-windows-8.aspx
and
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/11/26/remotefx-features-for-windows-8-and-windows-server-2012.aspx
and had a few questions regarding Windows 7 capabilities with RemoteFx.
- Is there a way to force multimedia redirection of the WAN latency is above 30 ms and similarly is there a way to disable multimedia redirection completely?
- If I'm remoting from a physical W7 SP1 machine to another physical W7 SP1 machine with remotefx enabled and the latency is above 30 ms (say 60ms), will the remote machine then encode and send the video as h264 or is that only on W8?
sessenv.dll crashes and takes down the whole svchost.exe group
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop farm with 4 servers. On one of the servers I am experiencing crashes of one svchost.exe due to sessenv.dll.

Most times the services does not restart and most times it crashes 3 times with exactly 16 minuttes between crashes. The crashes ocour random times during the day, and the last 2 days I had it running with no users on it (prevent new logons), and the crashes still ocours. There are no other eventlogs near the crashes.
I searced for this issue, but nothing I find is related to sessenv.dll.

Is there an RDS equivalent to Citrix "HDX File Access"?
Hi,
I know it is possible to allow local resources to be available within a users RDS session. But is it at all possible to have more control over what access the RDS session has over local resources. In Citrix Xenapp, when logging in for the first time, you
are prompted with the "HDX File Access" prompt (screen shot attached) asking what kind of access you want to allow your RDS session to have to your local resources. I am looking for something similar in RDS but can't seem to find anything. RDS is very black
and white in the sense that you can either allow or disallow local resource redirection
Can anyone tell me if this possible by way of group policy, third party tool, etc?
Thank,
Scott S.

RDS Server not Issuing CALs
Hi everyone I have a server that is set up as the RD Session host and the License Server. I have 20 Per User cals installed. The server is in a domain and it's scope is as such. It is also a member of the terminal services license group.
My problem is I can't for the life of me get this server to actually issue a Cal, keeping it so only 2 people can remote into the server. I need up to 6 people in the server and I can't figure this out. Please help. If you need any logs let me know I can easily obtain them.
Thanks,
Justice
RDP hangs during login. W2003 TS License mixed (Device and User Cals).
I have W2003 Server with RDP Users. Originally set up with Per Device licensing and Per Device Cals. Business has changed with intro of smartphones and tablets and laptops and the the Per User License makes more economic sense now. I purchased and installed Per User Cals and swapped the Licensing Mode to Per User. I left all Per Device Cals as they were. None of the Per User Cals appears to have been used yet ( all still available).
The problem: Local (in the building with server) RDP users can sign in and get Desktop. Remote RDP users get the login prompt, enter id and psw, click ok. Some cursor activity and then right before Desktop should appear, the screen hangs with regular blue background and the the mouse pointer. They never get to the Desktop.
Any ideas what to do?
Thanks,
BG

Windows 8 RDP error security package error occurred in the transport layer.
We have an issue where in windows 7 this rdp works fine but windows 8 gives this error on all machines.
Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because a security package error occurred in the transport layer. Retry the connection or contact your network administrator for assistance.

RDP v8.0 on Windows 7 sp1 but no USB Redirection
I have a Windows 7 Enterprise (with sp1) VM running on Windows Server 2012 running Hyper-V.
I've installed the RDP v8.0 update and assocaited hotfix on the VM but when I connect to it from a physical Windows 7 (with sp1) machine, that is patched in the same way, I'm not seeing the local USB devices being re-directed to the VM.
I've tried adding the "usbdevicestoredirect:s:*" entry into the RDP file but this doesn't make any difference.
I can see the devices listed in the local RDP client under the "Other Supported RemoteFX devices" but when I connect to the VM they don't appear. I was under the impression that the enhanced USB Redirection was a feature of RDP v8.0 but maybe I need to install the Virutalization Host role on the 2012 server in order to get this feature to work?
Cheers for now
