Remote App Error

$

0

We have had a working environment with remote apps and file associations. Suddenly this configuration stopped working. When users open the remote app program and open a file in the program, it works. When double clicking a local file or a file on a network drive the users are getting the following error.

"Remote app program Microsoft Word 2010 not found. Please contact your system administrator"

I updated the servers and the clients and on some computers i am recieving a new error:

"Error in Remote App, Cannot open this program or file. A problem with microsoft word 2010 has occured or the file you are trying to open, is not accessible.

For assistance, please contact your system adminstrator"

I can not understand why this was working before and suddenly stopped working, without any change to anything...

I already tried to install the hotfix from microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2716163/en-us but this didn't help.

I also have seen that drives are not redirected anymore, this was working also in the past....

The environment I am talking about is: 1 SBS 2011 Server 64 bit, 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit as terminal server. All clients have windows 7 pro 32 bit installed.

Anyone a clue?

Thanks in advance.

2012 RDS and publishing full desktop and lockdown

Hi.

I have a lot of customers that today run thinclients against 2008/2008R2 RDS and full desktop, not remoteapps.
I'm working on a proof of concept for the 2012 RDS. I have made a Farm with one RCB and two Session Hosts. I have made a collection and set up DNS.
The farm is alive and I can log onto the servers with users.

What was missing in 2008 R2, and what is missing even more in 2012 seems to be a way to pin items to the taskbar and / or startmenu. Is it possible to publish apps to the new startmenu? Any possibility to customize it at all? So far I can't find any...

Windows 2012 RDS User Profile configuration

Hi all,

I'm looking for a little help in speeding my 2012 based RDS system evaluation along. Essentially I have a fully working system and things appear to be working well however I just can't find any information in relation to User Profiles. I'm quite familiar with V1 and V2 profiles and I believe V2 profiles continue to be used with Windows 8/2012. What I can't find though is where using profiles I can influence what the user sees when they login. I need to be able to present applications etc on the Metro interface.

When configuring a Windows 2008R2 RDS system I used the following procedure after installing all the required apps:

From the Start Menu/Orb right click “All Programs” and select “Open All Users”. From this location copy “Programs” to \\CENTRALPROFILELOCATION\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\. Edit the contents of "Programs" and remove anything not required.

An guidance would be sincerely appreciated.

Sound in Remote Desktop Session stops working

Hello,

I have a sound issue with a 2008 server (32 bit). I'm monitoring the server via an RDP-Session that's up and running 24/7. Sometimes, the audio-output on the Client PC (Win 7 pro, 32 bits too) fells silent. Sound on the ClientPC itself (outside the RDP-Session) is fine, within the Session everything seems to be okay (volume control, Microsoft RDP Audio Device), just there is no sound. If I close the Session and reconnect, sound is back - sometimes for a day, sometimes for a week... Audio in the Console-Session or in other RDP-Sessions at the same time is flawless.

The WAN-Link between the two sites is a bit shabby, but as long as the session itself doesn't break I don't see a reason why a few beeps shouldn't come through.

After searching for a solution for a while now I have found hundreds of threads and solutions for no sound in RDP-Sessions at all, even a MS-Hotfix for shabby sound - but obviously I'm the only guy with such a problem.

Ideas anyone?

Thanks.

Is it possible to log what users do with applications running on RemoteApp?

Hello,

My client is concerned with logging users behaviour on RemoteApp.

He needs to know what applications are loaded and what is the IP from where users are connected.

Is there a way to do this without third-party software?

TSL certificate issue?

Hey guys,

Really new to Terminal servers here and am at my wits end with this issue thought I'd reach out for assistance.

So this is the error I'm getting randomly from various users across our 120+ user board.

The Remote Desktop license server cannot update the license attributes for user "DO NOT DISPLAY" in the Active Directory Domain "DO NOT DISPLAY". Ensure that the computer account for the license server is a member of Terminal Server License Servers group in Active Directory domain "DO NOT DISPLAY".
If the license server is installed on a domain controller, the Network Service account also needs to be a member of the Terminal Server License Servers group.
If the license server is installed on a domain controller, after you have added the appropriate accounts to the Terminal Server License Servers group, you must restart the Remote Desktop Licensing service to track or report the usage of RDS Per User CALs.
Win32 error code: 0x80070005

I've researched it and I'm unable to find a reason I made sure the licensing server is in the GPO for the terminal server. Since this is Windows I've rebooted them all. To display how random is can be last night a user was unable to connect, then today they connected fine. If anyone can shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks

Andrew

Cannot use Remote Desktop Services Farm as a RemoteApp Source

$

I am having difficulty using a farm as a RemoteApp source on my RemoteApp Connection Broker. When the farm is specified as the RemoteApp source on my Connection Broker, no RemoteApp Programs populate in RD Web Access.

If I specify one of the Session Hosts as the RemoteApp source then the RemoteApp Programs list will populate as expected.

Any suggestions as to what I can check would be greatly appreciated.

Edit, more information:

I should also point out that, for the purpose of testing, there is only one Session Host. This Session Host is on the same server as the Connection Broker.

The Connection Broker is called farm02.domain.com and the farm name is farm.domain.com.

The error that occurs is:

Access to the WMI interface on Remote Desktop Session Host server farm.domain.com was denied. Add the Remote App and Desktop Management computer to the TS Web Access Computers security group on farm.domain.com

Error Code: 0x80070005

This error suggests I should add the Connection Broker/Session Host computer to its own TS Web Access group, which I have already done without resolving the issue.

Certificate Issues with RemoteApp on two nodes (No Gateway). Simple Question.

Hello TechNet folks!

Hope you are having a nice day.

I am implementing a solution of two servers:

1x RD Host Session + RDWeb + RD Broker Service + Licence

1x RD Host Session

My company has bought a Root certificate with no wildcards (for exact FQDN)

I added the FQDN name in IIS, RemoteApp and in the host file of my local computer pointing to the IP of the WFE server.

When I get into the RDWeb site, it works just fine, not showing any certificate issues, but when I click in an App and connects to Node 2, certificate comes back with the full domain name of node 2 (rather than the FQDN I also configured in RemoteApp in Node 2, so the client receives a warning of invalid certificate (not correct for the name of the source). This does not happen when I deactivate RD Session Broker and get directly into it (Node 1 or modifying Host file so it points to Node 2 and going to Node 2), it comes back the right certificate for the RD Session.

Is this because I need another certificate for the other node?

Can I make it work with the certificate my client has purchased, has to be a SAN certificate?

p.s. We are to implement F5 Load Balancing as well, does it also have to have another certificate?

I hope you can help me with this, I rarely get frustrated but now I have to explain to the client what is to do in order to sort this issue.

Thanks in advance!

Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because your password has expired or you must change the password

Hello,

I am having an issue with clients trying to connect to RDS session host servers via RDP, when their AD account passwords have expired, or have been manually set to be changed at next logon.

The clients are Windows 7 SP1, the RDS servers are 3x Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (2x Session Hosts, 1x Gateway server)

The clients receive the following message when attemting to log on via rdp:

"Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because your password has expired or you must change the password. Please change the password or contact your network administrator or technical support for assistance."

After searching the technet forums, I found the following thread:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverTS/thread/c45d8f1d-13f9-490c-9911-7ed9e7859276

The suggested hotfixes have been applied to both client, and session host servers.

The security layer has been lowered also, as suggested in the thread.

Neither of these fixes work in our environment.

Can someone advise if there is an actual fix for this issue, as this is real problem for RDS users ?

Thanks

Matt

Windows XP and Remote Gateway with non standard port

$

I have a W2k8 server with a non-standard port number for RD Gateway. This is now supported under RDP 8. However, it looks like Windows XP can only go to RDP 7.

IF this is true, I assume I won't be able to connect via the gateway on a Windows XP machine. Are there any work arounds or third party clients who can over come this limitation?

Thanks in advance!

2008 R2 Session Broker and RDS Farm - Client redirection issues

$

Hi all,

I'm seeing some issues with Thin Clients running XPe 2009 with RDP client 6.1.7600 RDP 7.0 supported

The setup

RDSB - 2008 R2 session broker (running DC roles as well)
RDSH01 and RDSH02 are members of farm "RDS"
They also have NLB configured with no affinity and TCP 3389

TC - XPe 2009 Thin Client running RDP Client

RDS.Domain.local exists in DNS and resolves to the NLB virtual IP

Connection that works
TC looks up rds.domain.local -> NLB directs it to RDSH01
TC logs into RDSH01
RDSH01 contacts the broker RDSB
RDSB can't find an active session, and conveniently load balances the connection to RDSH01
Bingo we're in

Connection that fails
TC looks up rds.domain.local -> NLB directs it to RDSH01
TC logs into RDSH01
RDSH01 contacts the broker RDSB
RDSB can't find an active session, and balances it to RDSH02
Error:

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons

1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) the remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network

It appears that the RDP client doesn't handle redirection

Further info

NLA is not enabled
Encryption is set to negotiate
This also happens when NLB is disabled and I'm using RR DNS

Both RDS Hosts list "connection type" as RDP 7.1

I can't find a change list between RDP 7.0 and 7.1, everything I've found just touts RemoteFX around

Is it possible to get RD Connection Broker/Redirection working with RDP 7.0 clients?

I can see a section in the RD Connection Manager on RDSB  for Redirection Settings
The body of the properties window mentions Virtual Desktop pools and Virtual Desktops
There is a sub section for DC version support, in which I have added an entry named rds-legacy.domain.local and tried with that resolving to the NLB IP and also making it a RR DNS entry for RDS01 and RDS02.

This post seems very similar to my issue, just an older client version - The resolution was not to use RD Session Broker.. which isn't ideal.

Event Log Error 3,50,137,140 When logging off an RDS Session.

Hi

I have implemented a virtualised RDS 2012 server farm ( session host) running on a 4 node Hyper-V Cluster. I am experiencing errors & warnings written to the event log whenever a user logs off a session.

The errors are

Event ID:50  Warning NTFS ( Delayed Write Failed - Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \$LogFile etc etc...

Event Id:140 Warning Microsoft-Windows-Ntfs  - The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur in in Volumeid: etc etc...

Event Id:137 Error Ntfs - The default transaction resource manager on volume xxxxxx encountered a non-retryable error and could not start

All servers are 2012 with all hotfixes applied

The problem occurs whenever we implement Profile Disks with the collection, the profile disk share has been implemented on physical server 2012 hosts & virtual server 2012 file servers and the problem persists on either.

Alan

Moves a RDS VM from 2008R2 to 2012, can no longer Remote in?

$

We are moving all of our VMs from a Standalone Hyper-V 2008R2 Server to a Clustered 2012 system.

The Moving of the 150GB VHD to VHDX went fine. The Machine imported with Success.

When I go to remote into the server from a number of different clients, It will not allow me to connect. Says to Check the server and make sure it is on and that remote access is enabled.

I can connect to the console from the Hyper-V Manager and Log in just fine.  The System Event log has a few things in it of note, nothing in the Application Event log

Time-Service (129) Warnings talking about cannot find a Domain peer
GroupPolicy (1129) Error saying that it failed because of a lock of network connection to a domain Controller
NETLOGON (5719) saying that it was not able to setup a secure session to a domain controller.

If I go to the Server Manager and under Roles, RDS and restart the Remote Desktop Service. I can then log back in just fine.

So I'm not sure why I'm getting the Domain Connectivity Errors, and why I need to restart the RDS Service in order to remote into the server.   I've rebooted several times. There are many other Hyper-V VMs on this cluster, on the same Host in the cluster and none are experiencing any issues.   There are AD DCs in the VM Cluster and there are some still on the old Hyper-V Servers.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks!

Windows 2012 RDS- slow connection to rdweb and then not connecting

Here is setup:

Brand new server

Host machine- Windows 2012 Std, 16 GB RAM, Dual quad core processors, DNS, DC, DHCP, Hyper-V hsot

HyperV machine- Windows 2012 std, 4 cores allocated, 6 GB startup memory with dynamic as well, all RDs roles

(small company 35 internal and 6 external users, external will use RDS)

RDS Roles installed are Licensing, Web Access, Gateway, Connection Broker, and Session Host. Using Session based desktop deployment.

I have installed everything with the defaults. I included the user group for access to the quicksesisoncollection. Using self-signed certificates.

I have tried both win7 client and win8 client so far. Opening the rdweb page shows the icons for the applications (wordpad, calculator, Paint). Clicking on anyone of these brings up the RemoteApp trust prompt. Clicking that then has a significant delay (a minute or more) before the show details appears, then clicking that shows the ‘welcome’ logging in screen. I get a black screen after 30 seconds or so that just sits there and then remoteapp window disappears.

I have tried with and without disabling all of the remote connections such as drives and printers. Also disabling the login script for users.

Only thing I see in the event logs of RDS server is Event 9009 Information “The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0xd00002fe)”.

Not sure where to go from here. First time working with the new RDS.

Thanks.

RDP terminal only session (Internet Explorer/Java) restricted

$

Hi guys

I have a small network at the office in the local range (192.168.0.1) with a VPN available for admins only.

I am planning to implement Intel vPro AMT which allows remote management via web interface of any PC in the office. User will be able to power-on, power-off PC via the PCs IP address using the web.

Problem? Workstations use local IPs (192.168.0.110 as example) and I don't want to allow VPN access to users.

My solution? I would like to give local accounts on our border/DMZ zone Windows Server 2003 so users can RDP into my external/public server with Remote Desktop but I don't want the users to have a full-blown windows experience. By that I mean no need for shell, no need for start menu, only need Internet Explorer with Java installed so that user can browse to their PC and reboot using this bridge.

Any ideas how can I accomplish this "constrained to IE only" user account on a Windows 2003 server? Thanks

Exposing RDS to outside world

We are running server 2008 R2 and I have a default install of RDS. Is it "safe" out of the box to just expose to the outside world? Or is there special configuration "best practice" to apply in order to have an extra layer of security as far as the connection goes. I wouldn't want the user to have to authenticate more than once.

Any ideas?
