Can anybody tell me if there is an Event ID for a change of user logon mode and if so in what category of the event log I would be able to find it.
Thanks in advance!

I have a domain that was successfully running with two Windows 2003 DCs. I added a Windows 2008 R2 DC to the network successfully. I demoted (removed) one of the 2003 DCs. I added a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server to the network. I added the TS Licensing Server as well. I activated the Licensing Server and installed my User CALs. All seemed to work well until I looked at the error log. Whenever a non-administrator user logs in to the TS machine I get an error in the errror log telling me that
The Remote Desktop license server cannot update the license attributes for user "USER" in the Active Directory Domain "DOMAIN". Ensure that the computer account for the license server is a member of Terminal Server License Servers group in Active Directory domain "DOMAIN".
I do not get this error when an administrator logs in via TS.
When I look at the Security Groups in the DC for the domain there is a Builtin Security Group called "Terminal Server License Servers" and it has the terminal services computer (which is the same as the license server) listed in the group.
How do I fix this?
Hi everyone,
I am getting a publisher wanring despite having a GoDaddy issued certificate and installed/configured on Windows 2008 R2 Server. Applications are launched using RDWeb RemoteApps and not .rdp. Please advice how to get rid of this warning. There are no check marks and it shows every-time. Below is a picture of the warning:
Thanks
We bought some HP Thin Client t410. I setup the Thin Client and connect to one of our Windows server 2008 R2 RDS. It worked for a week. I am back to the office after the new year, it can’t connect to the same RDS. Here are details.
Bob Lin, MVP, MCSE & CNE Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Troubleshooting on
How to Setup Windows, Network, VPN & Remote Access onI have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.
I have two problems.
First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:
The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start. The data contains the error code.
The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:
It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?
Second:
Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved
the problem described below.
My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.
I setup a remote desktop farm to test it out before going to a production environment. Current setup: two remote desktop servers (TSFarm1 and TSFarm2) with a third server that has the Broker role installed (TSFarmBroker). I am using Network Load Balancing to balance the load.
Farm2 is set to not accept any new connections.
I have 4 users (Uno 1-4) logged in, two on Farm 1 (Uno1 and 2) and two on Farm2 (Uno3 and 4)
I logged out Uno3 from Farm 2, it logged back into Farm1. No problem.
I then closed the RD session for Uno4, so it went into a disconnected state on Farm2.
When I created a new RD session for User 4, it sometimes reconnects to Farm 2 like it should, but there are also times when it will create a new session on Farm 1 leaving the Farm 2 session in the disconnected state.
How can I prevent this from happening?
I cannot have a user with multiple RD sessions. If they left a window or a program running on the disconnected session, they would not get back to it on the active session on the other server.
Here is a screen shot from the Broker showing Uno4 connected to multiple servers:
Thanks!

Hi.
I have been working with Win2k8-r2 x64. I deploy a RD server on it, users where working without issue, the license manager mark the users as "temporary".
Now, I register my CAL receive my 5 licenses and finish the proces in the server, now the server have 2 registers:
win 2k8-r2 temporary
win 2k8-r2 5 licenses.
My user are in the temporary side, but I need to move them to the right one(CAL 5) and delete the temporary line.
How can I fix this?
Thanks!!!
I have a need to redirect c:\temp to %USERNAME%\tempon Windows 2003/2008 TS severs.
I need this becausewe have a home grown application that runs on our users local machines (Java / Internet Explorer based). This application creates PDF reports and is hardcoded to name the generated report c:\temp\report.pdf
I want to get thejava based client off of the local machines and have the users run the app via TS. The problem then is all user reports would be called c:\temp\report.pdf. The report would overwrite itself every timeit was run.
Rewriting the codeon in the Oracle application isn’t an option in the short term. There are 10,000+ forms that would need to be changed / documented.
Thoughts on howbest to accomplish this?
I still cannot find a solution for this problem. I followed the suggested solution but the problem still persist.

Hi Everyone,
I am looking for best practice and best suggestions regarding download of MSI package of RDP applications. I am running Windows 2008 R2 Server and want the users to have the options to login and download the MSI packages for RDP shortcuts and install it - and then forget about coming to RDWeb and just use the installed Remote Apps to run the apps. Currently, I e-mail them the MSI package and it's not the best way to do it really for management reasons.
Any suggestions how to better manage this?
Thanks
Hello! At my workplace, we are experiencing an odd problem. We have an office network with roughly 20 desktops running Windows 7, on a domain hosted by a server running Windows Server 2008. We use Remote Desktop / TS Gateway to let people log in from home through Remote Desktop Web Access (i.e. through Internet Explorer). There's a strange issue: the first time you try to connect to computer, 100% of the time, fails, with the error message "Remote Desktop can't find the computer '[name]'. This might mean that '[name]' does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to." But then, the second attempt always works!
Needless to say, this is something we'd like to fix. Once you connect, Remote Desktop works fine.
Network administration is done by an outside partner for us. Our partners, who recently set this up Remote Desktop TS Gateway for us, claim that this must-try-twice problem is a known issue with TSG, and cannot propose anything to fix it. However, I can't find any evidence that this is a known problem. I can find plenty of examples of remote desktop _not working_, but nothing where the first attempt never works but subsequent attempts do. Would very much appreciate any experience anyone can share with this--or any guesses as to what could be causing this.
I can add that, within the domain, seated at a computer, the Remote Desktop app accessible from the Start menu works perfectly fine, with no issues connecting.
Thanks much for any insights!
I would like to cooperate AD task with remote user (for training purpose).
Is there any good way to share remote screen ? ( remote assicetance ? or webex or Lync ,etc )
about terminal server we do not have.
hey
when i try to remote control i have to choose a hot key to disconnect
if i wrote the key, the session crash and i got this msg
but if i choose key from the combo-box it's work fine
looks like bug...
anybody may know what could it be ?
From looking around it looks like this isn't possible but I thought I'd see if someone can confirm for sure it won't.
I've been tasked with setting up RDS on a new 2008 R2 box we're going to be deploying along side an existing SBS 2003 machine. I've been asked to configure it in such a way that the licensing role isn't deployed on the 2008 R2 box but to configure the SBS 2003 to this.
So my question is: Can SBS 2003 handle licensing for a RDS deployment on 2008 R2?
hi,
can anybody tell me how to install Terminal Services in windows server 2008R2. Actually I have installed Terminal services in that but it is not workin. I want to add 7 users in that , but except admin nobody Is able to log on that server. Can anybody tell me what is the problem is that?
Thank you
I have succesfully installed Windows Server 2012 Essentials. I need to use this server as a terminal Server where <20 may be allowed to make parallel connections.
I have succesfully setted up and activated the Licensing Server and installed 10 Windows 2012 Per User RDS CALS. In Licensing Diagnostics there are no issues, everything is green, Licensing Server is detected with 10 Per User RDS Cals installed. I am using Workgroup mode, hence I have a Samba domain and RDS does not work with Samba domain.
I cannot access Server Manager / Remote Desktop Services, as is not working with Workgroup mode, I get an error that I am logged in as Local User.
The problem is when I try to log in more than 2 users, Windows is asking me to disconnect one the ones already logged in, so it doesn't accept more than 2 parallel connections, just like as I have never installed Remote Desktop Services Role and 10 Per User RDS CALS.
Could you please help? Is a problem with the installation? Is a problem with Windows Server 2012 working in Workgroup mode, or is a problem with setting up the Maximum Number of parallel connections (I know in Windows Server 2008 R2 you can set this up from Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration / Network adapter, but on 2012 this option is not present anymore).
Thank you very much !

I've done a complete Windows Server 2012 setup with broker, webserver, license server and RDS-Hosts. I've set up the licensing to use Pr. Device and added 1000 licenses to the license server (who also is the web server and broker). The RDS Overview picture says that all is OK. But if I run licensing diagnostics on any of my RDS Hosts I get "Licensing not configured". Tried resetting the license server with set-rdlicenseconfiguration, but still the hosts refuse to take the configuration, and therefore starts to fail after 120 days. Licensing Manager on the broker/webserver/license-server says all OK with 1000 free licenses, none taken.
Any pointers?
Sincerely
Ketil
