RDS tab in SAAD.msc

$

I'm not sure if this is the right spot for this question, but I figured this was as good as any to start with.  Here is my scenario:

We are running on Windows 7 x64 Enterprise/Server 2008 environment.

Due to the use of 32 bit only MMC extension, I'm trying to get the Remote Desktop Services Profile tab to work in a 32 bit instance of the SAAD tool.  I have tried just about everything I know to get this to work and it simply won't load in 32 bit mode. I strongly suspect that this is due to the fact that the 64 bit version of the Remote Server Administration tools is installed and thus that particular dll is a 64 bit only assembly.  On a fresh image I have tried installing the 32 bit version of RSAT but the installer refuses to run.

What I have been trying to do is isolate and locate the specific dll responsible for that tab and then attempt to pull it from the RSAT package and register it.  The problem is that I still have not been able to identify exactly which dll (or group of dlls) is responsible.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Is this even possible?  Thank you in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Remote Desktop Farm, user logged in multiple times

I setup a remote desktop farm to test it out before going to a production environment.  Current setup: two remote desktop servers (TSFarm1 and TSFarm2) with a third server that has the Broker role installed (TSFarmBroker).  I am using Network Load Balancing to balance the load.

Farm2 is set to not accept any new connections.

I have 4 users (Uno 1-4) logged in, two on Farm 1 (Uno1 and 2) and two on Farm2 (Uno3 and 4)

I logged out Uno3 from Farm 2, it logged back into Farm1.  No problem.

I then closed the RD session for Uno4, so it went into a disconnected state on Farm2.

When I created a new RD session for User 4, it sometimes reconnects to Farm 2 like it should, but there are also times when it will create a new session on Farm 1 leaving the Farm 2 session in the disconnected state.

How can I prevent this from happening?

I cannot have a user with multiple RD sessions.  If they left a window or a program running on the disconnected session, they would not get back to it on the active session on the other server.

Here is a screen shot from the Broker showing Uno4 connected to multiple servers:

Thanks!

RemoteApp Source not working from RDWeb

I have 2 servers at the moment managed by a connection broker. If I choose a RemoteApp source instead of RD conncection broker then 1 of my servers populates all the apps fine. If I choose the other host then it errors and says 'RD Web Access was not able to access xxxx. Verify that the RD Session Host server name was entered correctly, that the server is running and connected to the network, and try again.' All the servers are R2 and I can RDP to each of the session hosts fine.

I'm trying to remote access my DC, CA, exchange and file server via RDP. I've gave every server the proper port numbers starting with the default 3389, and also inputted the IP addresses in my router.

The issue is, I can only remote into my DC and exchange server.

Any help will be appreciated.

However, I could use the same PC to remotely connect as a rds client and i can do that from any pc. I can also log into the server as the user. i only face this problem when i try to open the downloaded webapp from the rd webpage

Has this occurred to anyone before?

Any solutions?

not able to connect to published virtual desktop in RD web access from internet, RD gateway is unavailable

Hello there,

Urgent attention is needed here-

I have one 2012 server runnning RD webaccess, RD gateway, RD connection broker and another 2012 server running RD virtualization host with HYper-v. I have published webaccess and gateway via TMG using the web publishing rule and allowed /* in the path. I can access RD webaccess URL from internet and can see the published desktops, but when I click on it it throws error-

Kindly note that I am using split namespace, it means my internal domain is the child of public domain. One thing I am getting confused.....when I click on published desktop....it gives me a untrusted verifier dialog box (I am using internal certs) and there i could see the RDgateway name as - RDgateway.internal.domain.com? shouldn't his be issue as this domain namespace is not public ...only "domain.com" is public and thus name resolution failing for rdgateway?

This is only my assumption as I have no idea how rd web access server redirects to rd gateway...??

Also sometime I can't login to rdweb access url..it keep prompting me for creds..?

Kindly note that I am using virual desktop pooled infrastructure and not using session based deployment. Thus I don't have RD session Host server, is this role still necessary if I am using virual machine based deployment?

Please help

How to set up remote desktop licensing mode in windows server 2012

$

Hi,

I've deployed yesterday a windows 2012 server (RTM) and set up the license server for my 10-CAL licenses. That's ok.

But I can not see a way to point my server to see the license server. Every time I log in, I receive a message that the RD services will expire in 119 days.

Using the diagnosis tool it says that licensing mode isn't set up.

Where I can find the tool to set up this licensing mode? In windows server 2008 this question was asked in the setup wizadr.

Thanks a lot!

New Remote Desktop Session Host deployment, still restricted to two users, 2008 R2 SP1

I have a server I'm attempting to deploy Remote Desktop Session Host to (Terminal Services).  I have never done this before.  I followed the guide on TechNet.  I set up the licensing server on the same server, imported the CALs from an Open License agreement.  It shows 12 CALs, which is how it should be.  The licensing mode says "Per User" as it should.  Everything has green checkmarks.  Licensing diagnosis looks good -- no errors.  Yet, I can't log on more than two concurrent sessions.  It's acting as if it's still in "administrator mode" and not terminal server mode.  I checked the clients to make sure they aren't using "/admin" and they aren't.  I am always asked to disconnect somebody if the concurrent sessions exceeds two.

This is the first time I've deployed RDS.  I must have missed a step somewhere!  How do I begin to diagnose this?  The event viewer doesn't show anything interesting related to Remote Desktop in either the application, system, security, or specific remote desktop logs.  I imagine there must be some log somewhere that is saying "such and such is not able to do something. check such and such" but I can't find it.

I hope some pro out there can point me in the right direction to diagnose this.  I'm not sure where to begin. :-)

Some things I've found so far that MIGHT be part of the issue:

- This server is a demoted domain controller.  Is it possible some residual domain controller permissions / registry settings are getting in the way?  It is now a member server and was demoted successfully with no issue.

- I have a bunch of DCOM errors in system.  I'm not sure if it's related or not.  A bunch of 10009 errors, DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer xxxxxxx using any of the configured protocols.  It doesn't seem to coincide with logons, so I'm thinking it might be a red herring. Not sure, though.

Cannot remote control users sessions using Terminal Services Manager

Hello all

I have recently put Terminal Services on one of our Windows 2003 x64 Standard servers, before installed could remote control another admin no problem.

When I now go to remote control a user, I get Session (ID#) remote control failed.

(Error 7054 - The system has reached its licensed logon limit.  Please try again later.)

Run LSView and confirms that it can see the licensing server.

Anyone got any ideas, doesn't make any sense?

Many Thanks

RDP 8.0 update issue with RDweb and Remote Apps - KB2592687

Running Windows 2008 x64 server R2 as a TS Terminal Server with all current Windows updates.

If a user, with Windows 7 32bit or 64bit connects with KB2592687 to remoteapps or rdp via the web url (RDWEB), they are prompted for a password over and over again.

it is not an issue with the password, as a direct mstsc.exe connection works fine (i.e. not through the RDWEB portal). However, using a remoteapp or rdp connection via the RDWEB, results in this problems.

If KB2592687 is uninstalled the problem no longer occurs.

I have tried:

1) ensuring authentication is working under IIS - It is. Moreover, the problem only occurs under the update rdp 8.0. Does not occur for users without that update.

2) updated terminal servers to rdp 8.0 - no joy

3) there is no authentication attempt being shown in the logs. It's as though the password isnt being password through, when connecting via RDweb or RemoteApp.

is there something i need to activate on the terminal servers? nothing obvious i can see.

please help, this will soon become a huge issues as home users start updating their PCs. they cant connect.

We need to be able to disable the Windows firewall service

If I turn off the service, I can't RDP back into some machines until they are rebooted.  The installers for certain VoIP applications won't run if the firewall service is even running.  How can we go about stopping the service and maintaining remote access in Server 2008R2?

RemoteApps / CB

We experience some issues with reconnecting a disconnected session with RemoteApps

Environment:

2 RDS Session Host server and one connection broker. (W2K8R2) (we don't use a web portal for apps)

When I am looking in the Remote Desktop Connection Manager I see in the overview: RD Connection Broker is not configured for RemoteApp programs. I cant find what I need to configure. I' ll expect to add the RemoteApp Source (Farm name) but do I also need to configure RD Web Access Servers ?

Please let me know..

Remote Desktop Redirected Printer documents keep spooling whenever an RDP connection is opened.

As soon as an RDP connection is made the spooler starts getting bogus jobs called "Remote Desktop Redirected Printer.doc"
I say bogus because they don't print anything.. they simply show up on the spooler and after a few seconds dissapears but nothing prints.. this keeps hapenning as long as the RDP connection is active.
altough anoying this doesn't seem to be an issue if the printer is online, but offline printers keep increasing the list.. Just deleted over 24k pending documents..
Unnaceptable.
Altough I've seen numerous forums with users with the problem, I haven't found a solution yet.. From Microsoft or anyone at all.
Clearing the checkmark for the printers option from the RDP options clears the problem but that's not an acceptable solution since I need to print.
I'm RDPing fom a WinXP machine to a Win2003 Server.

app start based on protocol

Hi,

I have question about terminal services with thick clients.

Clients have Outlook installed on their PCs, from time to time they receive links in mails(to different destinations - web, lotus notes, database,...). But some applications are only allowed on terminal server and some applications are anly allowed on client pc. Today, there is copy/paste allowed on terminals but my question is if it is possibleto make PC automatically choose terminal or local app based on protocol(i know that I can associate extensions with MSI installed RemoteApp but it doesnt solve the problem). To be absolutely clear, what I need is this:

1) Client receives link in hit Outlook
2) clicks the link
3) PC automatically recognizes if it should be handled by locally installed app or by app on terminal
4)PC opens appropriate app(and also hand over the link - IE lets say if its terminal app, terminal opens, also IE opens in terminal and link is also automatically pasted in address field)

Is this possible with Server 2008 R2/Server 2012. Thank you!

Pete
